Fuel Cut Off Knobs

The fuel cut off knobs are located at the rear of the throttle below thottle levers. When in the "idle detent position" they allow fuel to pass from the fuel tanks to the engine, They are attached to the fuel cut off levers and numbered 1 & 2 and there is only one screw on each holding them on.

Looking at the images below you can see that like the speed brake knob, the fuel cut off knob threads into the lever leaving clen edges and no scews showing , a sign of thoughtful workmanship. Small points like this are important to remember for your Boeing 737 flight simulator.

There are two positions that the handle can acheive CUTTOFF or IDLE. you may hear the word DETENT used a lot , this means that that the handle is locked in that position for example IDLE DETENT would refer to the picture below. The lever is in the idle position and locked there in the groove.

You can clearly see that there are only two positions that the handles can acheive IDLE - top( position in picture left) , or CUTOFF- in the picture below, both these handles are sprung loaded and need to be pulled out towards you to change position.

Once again you can see that for ergonomics each knob is about a finger width, also note that the screw threads from the inside and that there is no screw head on the outside.

It is best to make these knobs out of wood or plastic, most simmers will use wood , because it can be shaped easily, the CUTTOFF knobs are numbered 1 & 2 , I will tell you how to make these shortly and give you the measurements, once again it is important to get the look right for your Boeing 737 flight simulator so take notice of the way they look, I would like to point out to you at this point the black strip that runs vertical with the words IDLE at the top and CUTOFF at the bottom, this is known as a DECAL and all decals will be covered in a later chapter.
